Berg Lake
September 2010:
Backpacking had been a dream of mine for so long. I very much wanted to attempt it, but was afraid of trying it alone. Then I read about the Berg Lake trail in a famous photographer’s blog, which got me so excited and made up my mind to backpack this trail.
Planning began with lots of research, online and at Mec; buying a backpack, personal cooking system, water filter, tent, slumber pack and clothing etc followed. I booked the Berg Lake campsite for 3 nights and two additional nights to break the journey on the way up and down. Also, I booked the Robson Meadows campsite by the visitor center for the first night before the journey.
The beauty of this trail cannot really be described by words, or photographed with a camera. You really have to be there to absorb all the nature and beauty Canadian Rockies has to offer you. There are picturesque waterfalls, massive blue glaciers, pristine lakes and lush valleys along the way. This trail will challenge you, but it will give you the utmost satisfaction of a backcountry trail. If you want to know the Canadian Rockies intimately, this is where to start.
This has so far been my best hike, and you can check out some of the photos from this trek. I crossed streams, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, bridges, mountains and valleys to complete the best hike of my life, and I plan to do it again and again.
I went up to Snowbird pass which is at 2,408 m (7,898 ft) .
